In brief, the Pension Protection Fund’s main function is to provide compensation to members of eligible defined benefit pension schemes, when there is a qualifying insolvency event in relation to the employer, and where there are insufficient assets in the pension scheme to cover the Pension Protection Fund level of compensation. The Pension Protection Fund is a statutory fund run by the Board of the Pension Protection Fund, a statutory corporation established under the provisions of the Pensions Act 2004. To help fund the Pension Protection Fund, compulsory annual levies are charged on all eligible schemes.


Investing the assets of the Pension Protection Fund effectively is a further key function of the organisation. The Pension Protection Fund is also responsible for the Fraud Compensation Fund - a fund that will provide compensation to occupational pension schemes that suffer a loss that can be attributable to dishonesty.


As a customer-facing member of a transforming Technology and Change directorate, the role will provide career development opportunities for a capable apprentice looking to pursue a career in Cyber Security.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Providing administrative assistance to the delivery and creation of the phishing exercises and Cyber moments
  • Responding to Security Operations Centre (SOC) identified alerts, escalating these to the defined incident management structure.
  • Providing regular reports to the Head of Security and Privacy and other key participants on various security and networking statistics
  • Performing / Assist in vulnerability scanning and highlighting any concerns or issues raised within the results of the scans
  • Support and maintain the Information Management system
  • Working with relevant I.T teams to provide support and where appropriate administration or changes to PPF’s Network infrastructure; Firewall, Access Control, IDS/IPS and Web Security.
  • Escalating significant support issues to the service provider aligned with the incident management process.
  • Assist the relevant support teams to ensure all PPF environments are protected.
  • Supporting teams on technical aspects of the various programmes of work.
  • Providing team administration support to the IT team as required


Skills and Abilities 

  • Strong Technical and IT knowledge
  • Basic understanding of Information Security for businesses
  • Basic understanding of Risk Management and Control frameworks
  • Strong desire to learn and a keenness to perform technical and non-technical audits
  • Ability to provide support services for iOS mobile devices 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong customer service skills


This salary for this apprenticeship is £22k
