THE COMPANY

The council provides a large number of services for local people, businesses and visitors to the borough, including services for children and adults, and environmental, cultural, sports, housing, planning and benefits services.

 

With a workforce of about 6121 staff, including schools, Croydon Council is one of the largest employers in the borough. The council also makes a significant contribution to the local economy.

 

THE ROLE

This apprenticeship will give a fulfilling opportunity to work with children and young people in care and care leavers, while also gaining an understanding into the how’s and  why’s of their circumstances.

 

As a Youth Worker you will use educational activities, advice and support to help young people learn about themselves and to become more confident.

 

• Deliver a range of Children in Care Council (EMPIRE) and Leaving Care Forum activities alongside operational managers and staff.
• Facilitate a Care Leavers drop-in night alongside operational managers and staff
• Deliver independent skills training to care leavers alongside operational managers and staff
• Deliver total respect training to Professionals and Foster Carers
• Talk, listen and report the views and feedback of children in care and care leavers
• Plan events for Young People and Foster Carers alongside the operational managers and staff

THE CANDIDATE

 

• Personal experience of the care system
• Well organised and good time management skills
• Good communication skills
• The ability to motivate others; to be approachable and friendly
• Enthusiastic, patient and understanding
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• No formal entry requirements for the level 2 or 3 qualification

• Ability to work flexibly; including evening and weekends
• Able to travel around the London Borough of Croydon and neighbouring Boroughs
