PTI UK is a Leading provider of accommodation, support and training services for young people leaving care and seeking asylum. We Work in Sussex and Greater London ( with a base in Croydon). We have worked with local authority teams since 2004, helping over 300 young people make the transition into independence. We have a Community Interest Company, with a mission of helping young people in the community experiencing disadvantage and isolation. We have excellent professional relationships with a wide range of statutory and third sector organisations.


Pathways To Independence UK are looking for a Maintenance Worker, in semi-independent accommodation for young people of an asylum seeking and refugee background. We provide an integrated package of support and accommodation for young people seeking asylum aged 16 to 21 in the care of the local authority, from point of arrival in the UK through to their transition to independence.


The Maintenance Worker forms part of the support team responsible for the maintenance of our semi-independent housing projects, ensuring the highest quality standards. 


Responsibilities and Duties

  • To undertake repair work as directed and where safe and practical to do so, and with due regard to Health & Safety regulations
  • General maintenance and upkeep duties; troubleshooting maintenance
  • Maintaining a safe and well maintained environment for residents and staff
  • Planned maintenance works, safety checks and repairs
  • Some supervision of outside contractors
  • Work could include basic non-specialist: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, glazier, masonry, painting and decorating; repairs and treats, structures such as floors, showers, sinks, walls, roofs, and carpets; cleans debris from roof gutters as necessary
  • Ensure the safe and secure storage of all hazardous materials, including paints, drain cleaners, fuel and oil for petrol mowers, strimmers, pesticides, herbicides and other garden materials, in accordance with the requirements of the C.O.S.H.H. Regulations
  • Some cleaning and other responsibilities as required 


Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of general maintenance work and caretaking
  • Experience of working in a supported housing or social care environment
  • An understanding of the needs of vulnerable young people including those of a refugee and asylum seeker background
  • Full drivers license and access to a car or larger vehicle
  • A good level knowledge of Health and Safety legislation particularly in relation to COSHH, lifting and handling etc

The role does not require specialist works beyond routine diagnosis for plumbing or electrical works


These roles are 16-20hour a week jobs.
