THE COMPANY

London Skills & Development Network (LSDN) is a not-for-profit Social Enterprise, we provide adult education and community learning across London and surrounding areas.  As well as managing and delivering a diverse range of education and training programmes and courses, LSDN also offers a range of consultancy and capacity building support services to the education and training sector.

THE ROLE

The London Academy of Sports Science (LASS) programme is intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to working in the fitness industry. This qualification is aimed at learners wishing to become personal trainers and interested in furthering their skills in the fields of sports, fitness, nutrition and/or leisure.

 

What you will study:

 

  • Anatomy and Physiology required when exercise programming and design for a range of clients.
  • Importance of professionalism, customer service, effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of commonly occurring medically controlled diseases and health conditions.
  • Health and safety requirements for the exercise environment.
  • How to gather and analyse client information and establish their current health and fitness status.
  • Planning and instructing gym-based exercise.
  • How to design and deliver a health and fitness programme suitable to an individual’s specific goals and level of fitness.
  • How to plan and conduct physical activity sessions within a variety of environments.
  • How to provide nutritional advice for physical activity based on a client’s needs.
  • How to prepare for employment, as a personal trainer, on either an employed or self-employed basis

Course duration and start dates:

The programme lasts for 6 weeks and starts multiple times a year:

  • November / December
  • February / March
  • May / June
  • August / September

Attendance details

  • Tuesday Friday, 10am-4pm

 

 

THE CANDIDATE

Entry Criteria

Good written and spoken English skills are required. The minimum English Language skills equivalent required are:

•        B1 level qualification (Home Office’s list of recognised English tests)

•        Functional Skills Level 1 in English

 

You must have experience using cardiovascular equipment as well as fixed and free weights within a gym environment

 

You will complete an initial assessment as part of the enrolment and registration process to assess your suitability for the programme. We will support you with any English and maths needs throughout the programme.

 

You will need a device and stable internet connection for online delivery

OTHER INFORMATION

The courses are free if candidate is unemployed and on Universal Credit and it is also free if candidate is on the minimum wage
 
 

The programme is delivered as a mixture of classroom, gym activity and online delivery (2-3 days online and  1-2 days classroom/gym).
