We are proud to be part of the John Whitgift Foundation, a local charity in Croydon, whose mission is to provide education for the young and care for the elderly since its establishment by our Founder, Archbishop John Whitgift, in 1596.

 

Since laying his founding stone more than 420 years ago at The Hospital of the Holy Trinity, now known as the Whitgift Almshouses, the John Whitgift Foundation forms an incredible part of Croydon’s heritage.His educational legacy to Croydon, currently educating more than 3,000 boys and girls at leading independent schools: Whitgift, Trinity and Old Palace, enables a strong link with Whitgift Care. This enables a unique mix of generations in the homes with regular visits from pupils and the opportunity for outings to school theatre and musical productions.

 

Our passion for care also extends to the wider local community through our Carer's Information Service that provides invaluable information, support and advice to an estimated 30,000 carers in Croydon.

 

THE ROLE

To provide professional, clinical care for the residents at Whitgift House in line with the NMC Code of Practice and John Whitgift Foundation’s policies and procedures, ensuring residents are safeguarded from harm and that privacy, self-respect, dignity, and well-being, are maintained at all times.

 

To manage resources, including but not limited to, staff, time, equipment, and support services to maintain the quality of the service delivered within agreed budgets.

 

Operational

 

  • Ensure there are the correct number of staff on duty for the current and up-coming shifts, in line with the staffing ladder and cover appropriately.
  • Delegate and manage staff on each shift and effectively manage time.
  • Promote high standards of person-centered care, and act as a role model at all times.
  • Monitor care staff during each shift observing interaction with residents, visitors and colleagues, compliance with care as per care plans including pressure area prevention, nutrition, risk assessment, safeguarding and compliance with infection prevention and control.
  • Ensure clear and accurate records and communication systems relating to clinical and care delivery are maintained and effectively used; monitoring records completed by care staff daily.
  • Manage, report, and record all accidents, incidents and near misses in line with the Foundation’s policies and procedures.  Ensure accident and incident reports are written clearly and concisely and that any remedial action or learning is incorporated into care delivery.
  • Effectively communicate with residents, colleagues, management, external healthcare professionals, and visitors.
  • Take responsibility for the safe running of the home in the manager and deputy manager’s absence.
  • Provide leadership and support for care staff and act as a champion for resident safety and dignity.
  • Ensure effective and clearly documented handover systems are maintained to facilitate the effective transfer of information between staff and shifts.

THE CANDIDATE

 

Key criteria

 

Qualifications:

 

Essential:

 

  • Qualifications Registered Nurse Level 1#
  • Current NMC registration
  • CPD portfolio Certificates relating to key aspects of clinical intervention, e.g., tissue viability, phlebotomy, parental feeding, and catheterisation

 

Desirable:

 

  • Certificates relating to key aspects of clinical intervention, e.g., tissue viability, phlebotomy, parental feeding, and catheterisation

  • Teaching qualification

  • Mentorship certificate

 

Experience:

 

Essential:

 

  • Experience Experience of working in older people’s services
  • Experience in management of chronic and acute disease
  • Experience in managing a shift
  • Experience of collaborating with residents, colleagues, management, healthcare professionals and visitors
  • Supporting the development of new and less experienced staff
  • Understand the care planning process and have experience of writing care plans
  • Knowledge and use of clinical assessment tools, e.g., Waterlow/MUST
