We are proud to be part of the John Whitgift Foundation, a local charity in Croydon, whose mission is to provide education for the young and care for the elderly since its establishment by our Founder, Archbishop John Whitgift, in 1596.
Since laying his founding stone more than 420 years ago at The Hospital of the Holy Trinity, now known as the Whitgift Almshouses, the John Whitgift Foundation forms an incredible part of Croydon’s heritage.His educational legacy to Croydon, currently educating more than 3,000 boys and girls at leading independent schools: Whitgift, Trinity and Old Palace, enables a strong link with Whitgift Care. This enables a unique mix of generations in the homes with regular visits from pupils and the opportunity for outings to school theatre and musical productions.
Our passion for care also extends to the wider local community through our Carer's Information Service that provides invaluable information, support and advice to an estimated 30,000 carers in Croydon.
To maintain a high standard of care of the residents, together with accurate records under the general supervision of the senior staff. To promote a secure, relaxed and homely environment, ensuring privacy, self-respect, dignity and the well-being of each resident.
To provide religious, cultural, emotional and psychological support for resident and their families.
Job Title: Weekend Care Assistant
Location: Wilhelmina House, 21 Park Hill Rise, Croydon, CR0 5JF
Salary/wages: £11.30 per hour plus shift premium
Reports to: Care Home Manager/Deputy Manager
Hours: Saturday & Sunday. Shifts 7 am-2 pm or 2 pm-9 pm on a 4-week rota.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Care of Residents:
- To report and act appropriately upon the observation of any change to the condition of a resident.
- To become familiar with the medical history of each resident.
- To prepare and serve meals and drinks to residents, assisting with feeding when necessary and to record food and drink intake.
- To assist residents with bathing, washing and dressing and other assistance as necessary.
- Assisting residents with their toilet needs and attending to them as necessary.
- To put dirty clothing and linen in appropriate bags and report if resident’s personal clothing needs repairing or replacing.
- Assisting residents to and from their rooms as required.
- To maintain the health and safety standards for residents and staff.
- Acting as an escort (when possible) to residents required to attend clinics, hospital appointments etc. Any expenses incurred will be reimbursed.
- To attend ‘handover’ at the start of each shift and participate as appropriate. To participate in organised social activities and assist in the implementation of occupational therapy programmes, exercises etc. for residents to enable them to achieve their ultimate potential and independence, as appropriate during normal working hours.
- To respond to requests from the Management to attend staff meetings and discussions held in the home during normal working hours.
- To record in the Maintenance Book (in staff room) any non-urgent building or equipment defects and to report any urgent matters to the Manager, her Deputy or the Administrator.
- To carry out instructions to maintain standards of Health and safety in accordance with Council and Departmental policy. (Health & Safety Manual kept in office.)
- To carry out other duties as required within the scope of the role and as reasonably requested by the Manager or her Deputy.
- To maintain confidentiality of personal information regarding residents and staff and all other matters relating to the Home.
- To maintain a high level of professional conduct at all times.
- To maintain a high level of personal hygiene at all times.
In addition to the above, night duty involves enabling the residents to achieve a peaceful uninterrupted nights sleep whenever possible.
- Night Staff are not allowed to sleep when on duty under any circumstances.
- All staff are required to respect confidentiality of all maters that they might learn in the course of their employment.
- All staff are expected to respect the requirements under the General Data Protection Regulations 2018. All staff must ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
