From April 2025, Croydon Libraries will be operating a new service model. To deliver this we are looking for people who have an interest in customer service and for working as part of a team. 

 

You will be delivering library services directly to our customers, supporting activities and events and assisting customers with accessing our digital offer.

 

Job title: Library Support Assistant - Saturdays (13 posts)

Working Pattern: 7 hours every Saturday 9-5

Salary: £13.81 per hour

Location: All roles will require staff to travel to any of Croydon’s Libraries

To implement the policies and objectives of Croydon libraries and archives through the delivery of a high-quality library service which meets the requirements of the local community, and the priorities of the library and culture & heritage strategy.

Candidate requirements:

 

Essential knowledge:

 

  • Awareness of the library services offer
  • Understanding of Equalities and commitment to working with Croydon’s diverse communities in line with the Council’s equalities policies
  • Proven commitment and understanding of the needs of a customer-orientated service and of the need for excellent standards of customer care
  • Following health and safety guidance; and safeguarding in a library environment, escalating issues as required

 

Essential skills and abilities:

 

  • Ability to work enthusiastically as part of a team
  • Ability to use initiative
  • Understanding of and a strong commitment to providing excellent customer care
  • Empathy with children and young people and enthusiasm for the promotion of library services to all age groups and communities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use ICT and enthusiasm for its use in engaging customers in learning, knowledge and re-skilling
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

 

Essential experience:

 

  • Experience of delivering a customer-focused service

  • To be able to work at any Croydon library
