For three years and three months, you will work within the Public Health team in Croydon Council to develop the knowledge and skills of public health needed to apply for UKPHR Public Health Practitioner registration, whilst also studying towards a Level 3 BSc Public Health qualification at the University of East London. You will need to be able to start on the University of East London BSc in Public Health Programme on 22nd January 2026 (and able to enrol yourself onto this programme before January 2026 if successfully recruited to the role).
The Public Health Practitioner Apprentice role focuses on health at a community or population level, assessing and managing risk of disease and ill-health, and the prevention of premature deaths. You will be involved in monitoring and promoting health and wellbeing to ensure fairer health outcomes between different communities and groups in Croydon. You will help put in place protection measures to protect the public from environmental hazards and risks. You will also have a role in evaluating sources of evidence, interpreting it and designing and planning health interventions.
You will work independently and collaboratively, across a wide range of settings (eg: office, community, healthcare), working with different types of organisations, and with professionals and members of the public. You will be part of the team of public health professionals based at Croydon Council and may report to public health specialists and consultants from a range of backgrounds (including medicine).
