Ayer Associates Ltd is a small, friendly, family-run practice of Chartered Surveyors and Property Consultants, providing building surveying, project management, quantity surveying, advisory and property consultancy services to clients across the public and private sectors.

Start your career in building surveying with Ayer Associates Ltd, where you will gain practical experience on real projects while working towards a recognised qualification. As our Apprentice Building Surveyor, you will learn from experienced colleagues in a friendly, supportive team and build your knowledge of construction, property and professional surveying practice.

The apprenticeship will combine structured workplace learning with formal study towards an appropriate building surveying qualification. Details of the programme level, training provider and study arrangements will be confirmed with the successful candidate.

About the role

Working closely with senior colleagues, you will support the delivery of a varied range of building surveying instructions and projects while developing your knowledge and skills. The role will include assisting with site inspections, condition surveys, taking notes and photographs, preparing simple reports, supporting project administration, helping with specifications and learning how surveying advice is provided to clients.

You will be given the opportunity to learn on real projects from an early stage, with supervision, mentoring and support from experienced colleagues. We will help you build confidence, develop good professional habits and work towards the qualifications and experience needed for a career in building surveying.

What we are looking for

  • A genuine interest in building surveying, construction, property and the built environment.

  • A professional, organised and practical approach to work.
  • Good attention to detail and confidence using basic IT systems, including Microsoft Office.
  • Suitable school, college or equivalent qualifications for entry onto an apprenticeship programme.
  • A full UK driving licence would be helpful, although the ability to travel to sites and offices as required is more important.

What we offer

  • The chance to begin your career within a supportive, approachable and friendly team.
  • A full-time role working 37.5 hours per week.
  • A competitive remuneration package.
  • Practical experience across building surveying, project support and wider property consultancy work.
  • Support with apprenticeship training, study requirements and workplace evidence.
