MAIN PURPOSE
The Youth Engagement Lead (Internship) is responsible for helping develop, implement, and overseeing programmes and initiatives that engage young people at Legacy Youth Zone including a youth voice forum. This role aims to create a safe, inclusive, and vibrant environment where young people can thrive, develop skills, and actively participate in their community. This role will support the board of trustees hear from young people directly and help cultivate relationships between the trustees, our core operations and young people.
CONTRACT
40 hours per week – 5 sessions Tuesday to Saturday plus office time to plan events, organise themes, help deliver the youth voice forum and participation events, trips etc.1 Year Fixed Term Contract Due to being required to work during Senior sessions (aged 13-19), you must be aged 21 or over to be considered for this role
This role will form part of the recreational youth work team and work 5 sessions a week across the youth zone during the universal sessions which will help encourage relationships, opportunities to hear first-hand from young people and, with the recreational area being the heart of the youth zone, be at core of the offer and meet young people at their point of need
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Programme Development & Implementation:•
Help design and deliver a diverse range of activities, workshops, and events tailored to the needs and interests of young people.•Collaborate with young people to co-create programmes that empower them and encourage their active participation.•Support inclusivity and accessibility of activities and promote personal development.•Support delivery of the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards scheme.
Events and themes:•
Using the Youth Zones’ events and themes calendar, help plan and deliver in partnership with the wider staff team and young people, events that are relevant, topical, engaging for young people and the community.•In partnership with OnSide, help engage young people in Youth Voice forum residential and leadership programmes.•Support planning of annual Young People Celebration Awards as well as recognising young people ‘Member of the Month’.
Youth Engagement:•
Build strong relationships with young people to understand their needs, aspirations, and challenges.•Promote youth leadership by encouraging young people to take on roles within the Youth Zone.•Support delivery of regular feedback sessions and youth forums to ensure their voices are heard and integrated into programme planning.•Help provide opportunities for young people to represent the Youth Zone at board level, in the community

•To be alert to issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring the welfare and safety of Youth Zone members is promoted and safeguarded, and to report any child protection concerns to the designated
•Child Protection Officers•To assist with any promotional activities and visits that take place at the Youth Zone.
•To actively promote the Youth Zone and positively contribute towards increasing Youth Zone membership
ABOUT LEGACY YOUTH ZONE
Croydon Youth Zone, named “Legacy” by local young people, was the third Youth Zone in London opened by the national charity, OnSide in September 2019. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join a small but growing, impactful fundraising team and play a critical part in shaping opportunities for London’s young people and supporting a grass roots, committed universal youth service.Legacy, like all OnSide Youth Zones, exists to give young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to.Legacy’s state-of-the-art £6.5 million building on Whitehorse Road, provides young people with access to a range of activities, offering them the opportunity to try new things, meet new friends and gain support from friendly, warm and positive staff and volunteers. The facilities include a 3G pitch, a gym, sports hall, recreation area and dance, arts, music and media suites, with facilities equipped for a wide range of sporting, artistic, cultural and general recreational activities and targeted services.
