The private sector housing team are responsible for working with landlords, agents and tenants with improving safety standards and property management in the boroughs’ large private rented sector. This includes the responsibility for fire safety in existing buildings. This is a great opportunity for a well organised, reliable, empathetic and hard working person to join the team as a Housing Enforcement Assistant. This role is office based, with the officer regularly in contact with the public and supporting other officers in the team.
To be responsible for
- Wide range of administrative, officer support and customer service tasks relating to the operation of the Private Sector Housing Team including property licensing, housing standards, and enforcement.
- Gathering, preparing and maintaining information so that the Council has an accurate record of relevant tall buildings in the borough. To produce a tall building information sheet that provides background information on construction, fire safety and ownership and individual buildings.
- Taking steps to gather key fire safety documentation. As necessary undertaking some compliance checks to raise compliance issues before logging and storing the documentation.
- Dealing with enquiries from the building owners, building management companies, London Fire Brigade, wider public, council officers and external stakeholders on a wide range of private sector housing matters.
- To assist with creating, processing and recording statutory and informal notices, some linked with gathering information, created by officers by making up notice packages, including relevant inserts.
This is role is on a fixed term contract for 18 months. The role will involve supporting technical staff with fire safety standards in buildings in tall buildings, those measured as over 11 metres. The Building Safety Act 2022 defines buildings over 11 metres as relevant buildings for some fire safety responsibilities.
